Well if you are using the WordPress.com Stats Plugin, there is a slight bug or an annoyance. If you don’t put the full title you want prior to the first time it auto saves, it will be the partial title, or the all lovely: ?p=123. I just started noticing this a few days ago, my last post, I didn’t know what to exactly say for a title, so now in WP.com Stats’ database, it shows up as “Kid Vote” or something along those lines.

A special needs kindergarten student in Florida was voted out of the classroom by his peers. The vote was initiated by the teacher according to the mother in the video.

The Coral and Opal blog made a post on this as well, the author points out that Ms. Portillo, Alex’s teacher, stated that “she and the class a was not ready for him to return.” Portillo said Alex was pushing up a table with his feet while he was laying underneath it. While nothing I read about this said Alex was doing it to hurt people, I don’t see why he was punished. I, and probably everybody else, don’t know why Alex lifted the table. He could have just trying to impress a girl. To play a devil’s advocate, why would a young boy with a disability want to impress a girl? We all know all persons with disabilities are a-sexual.

While I could spend more time looking at this issue, I want to look at the fact that no major site or news source has covered this. I did a search in my RSS reader for more stories about this issue, and came up with zero hits. So I am wondering why it didn’t get more coverage.

The past few weeks have been hectic for me. I had some personal issues come up that I had to deal with, so its been quite the emotional roller coaster. It will always kill me how one minute things are fine, and the next is gone.

I am not sure why I am being vague. Basically I met somebody who I thought I connected with really well. Or so I thought. I went from getting a reply to a text or instant message almost instantly, to going an hour without a reply or acknowledgment. While this happened she claimed it did not, however I could see quite clearly something was going on. After about a week of this I had enough, and called her out. I was hoping for a civil conversation, but it ended up being her yelling at me.

In other news, school is going not to well. My financial aide has not kicked in and paid. That means that the lovely housing department has cut off my meal card, and I cannot eat. Fortunately, I knew that they were going to do that and I bought a good amount of food prior to that. However, that doesn’t get around the real issue of why my aide has not paid yet. They have not called nor e-mailed me back yet telling me what’s up, yet the last time we spoke it was going to be done in the next couple days.

Having no money myself, I cannot really pay all of it, and I am considering a loan, which I am dreading. People have been like well that is just a part of college deal with it. So, like I said the past few weeks have been hell…

I just logged in here not too long ago, and saw that I had new spam comments. Usually I just hit delete all, and go on my way. But I decided to take a quick look to see what lovely things I got spammed with. I saw that the name was the same as mine so a thought that our friendly spammers were just getting smart. I looked again and saw that the comment was actually a comment which I had posted a while ago. I scrolled down some more, and found that a number of previously legit comments were marked as spam.

Yesterday I upgraded to WordPress 2.5.1, as well as upgraded the Askimet plugin. So, just do a quick look before you hit delete all.

I was just given a beta invite to Socialspark, which I am not sure why/how I got an invite. After a bit of looking around, it turns out that Socialspark is just a spin-off of PayPerPost. In fact, Socialspark is made by PayPerPost’s parent company, IZEA.

It is supposed to provide a social atmosphere that connects advertisers to the people who blog/talk about their brands the most. Mike Arrington did a review over at TechCrunch, he said this is just something that pollutes the blogosphere because instead of bloggers doing open-minded reviews of sites, they are paid to do it. Which I never liked the PayPerPost idea. A person I know, has half their content with PayPerPost sponsored posts.

I have written before about my thoughts about Obama running for President of the United States, and what kind of changes could happen. Many others done this as well, and went on to speculate that if Obama was elected it would mark the end of racism in the United States.

I found an article in the New York Times that digs up a 1920’s biography about Warren G. Harding by historian William Estabrook Chancellor. Chancellor wrote the piece to try to mess up Harding’s campaign. The article mainly discusses how African Americans who believed that Harding was in their family by blood had to keep hush hush about it. We still don’t know if Harding did have African American blood in him, and we may never know.

What is interesting that as we inch closer to election day, stories start to pop up. I mean William Chancellor’s racist biography has been around since 1920, while it was removed from the public for the most part, it is interesting that it is now being brought back up that Obama may not be the first black president.

I heard a ton of buzz around the new version of WordPress. One, or rather, the only thing I heard about is the beautiful admin panel. I could not be more dissatisfied with it! Why you ask?

While I the layout is nothing special, except for the write a post page, the color scheme is terrible. The first time I saw it, I had to look away do to the colors. I am quite sorry to say, who ever has designed the admin panel, needs to read up on contrasting. Considering the panel came from Happy Cog Studios, which is headed by Jeffrey Zeldman, this just makes me even more sad.

Sidenote About the Write a New Post Page

I have to give this a thumbs down as well. It seems like it is set for somebody who is blogging in the contributer or writer role, not an administrator. On my 17-inch screen, I have to scroll to get to one of WordPress’ key features, the categorizing of the post. Seeing how I am a big keyboard user, all this makes me do is use the mouse more. I will leave out the minimal access you get if you navigate by keyboard in the most important part of the panel.

So, in conclusion, the biggest thing that was widely acclaimed about, is nothing but disappointment for me. The one thing that is particularly nice is the built-in feeling of the WordPress Stats plugin. I cannot wait until the Popularity Contest plugin gets updated.

About a week ago, I found an old comment from a friend of mine. I decided to check her blog out since it had been a while. I noticed that she was getting quite a number of comments per post, and I asked her what she did she do to get so many comments. She said she used two services to bring people in. From the two services she mentioned, I decided to try Entrecard, which claims to be the new way to drop your business card 2.0.

I don’t buy that fully. The welcome page, talks about how in restaurants you drop your business card in a box or something to win yourself a free lunch. The way Entrecard works is an user puts a small piece of [javascript] code somewhere on their blog, and other Entrecard users click the gold bar at the bottom to “drop their card.”

You gain 1 credit per card you drop, and another credit per card dropped by others on your blog. What then do is use your credits to buy space on other blogs. So you may see something other than an image saying my blog title near the bottom of the side bar, that means somebody paid to advertise on my site.

In the help section, they post a final note on dropping your card. They encourage you to read at least one post and comment before dropping your card. I know I try to read a few lines of the post before dropping my card.
