The past few weeks have been hectic for me. I had some personal issues come up that I had to deal with, so its been quite the emotional roller coaster. It will always kill me how one minute things are fine, and the next is gone.

I am not sure why I am being vague. Basically I met somebody who I thought I connected with really well. Or so I thought. I went from getting a reply to a text or instant message almost instantly, to going an hour without a reply or acknowledgment. While this happened she claimed it did not, however I could see quite clearly something was going on. After about a week of this I had enough, and called her out. I was hoping for a civil conversation, but it ended up being her yelling at me.

In other news, school is going not to well. My financial aide has not kicked in and paid. That means that the lovely housing department has cut off my meal card, and I cannot eat. Fortunately, I knew that they were going to do that and I bought a good amount of food prior to that. However, that doesn’t get around the real issue of why my aide has not paid yet. They have not called nor e-mailed me back yet telling me what’s up, yet the last time we spoke it was going to be done in the next couple days.

Having no money myself, I cannot really pay all of it, and I am considering a loan, which I am dreading. People have been like well that is just a part of college deal with it. So, like I said the past few weeks have been hell…

One of the reasons I also haven’t updated is because I lost one of my grandmothers not too long after Thanksgiving. I have been trying to deal with that. It was more like being there for my mother and sister, more than anything personally.

Then of course there is school and work, and trying to have somewhat of a social life. Just wanted to tell the people who visit regularly that I am all m right for the most part, but just haven’t had the time to update.

We all want to hit success at some point, in some shape or form. With blogs, it could be number of hits you get as a whole, on a certain post, or the same thing with comments. Early on, in my last blog I had, I was only getting a few dozen hits a day, incidentally about as much as this blog is getting currently. Not really thinking, I copied and pasted one of those e-mails that get forwarded every now and then. After a few days, I noticed a slight jump in hits.

This was just under two years ago, and I still get hits daily for that post. I am shocked, a few days ago, I have gotten just under 950 hits for that post. I wish that all of my posts or just my blog in general got that many on a regular basis. But, I think I write half-decent things, although I don’t get much attention from it.

I just realized something, I only blogged two times in the whole month of July. How sad is that? I got this domain almost a year ago, in hopes to just explode with blogging and other things. However that is not happening really. During school, I was trying to focus on my studies, but I don’t have any now. So where has the time gone? In the end of June, I wrote a post about how I was dealing with some personal issues. I thought things would clear up and return to normal, but seeing that it will not happen, I have to pack my things up and move on. That happened just about three weeks ago. If you don’t know me, I usually don’t have the best luck with women.

I have been working on putting together a site for a department at school. My initial design went over pretty well, I am waiting to hear back about it. This caused me to dive back into PHP. One of the features the department wants is to display a few blurbs about the department — like updates and such. This caused me to throw together a small database and figure how to show only the latest few entries.

My next step is to figure out how to make a form, so that the proper people could “update the site” without touching my database. My main issue is I don’t know how to make the form say: put these values into these fields of this database. I haven’t really looked too much to figure it out. The examples I have seen, have a random URL in the beginning of the form. From what I recall, you need to do that only when you are giving a detail summary. If anybody could give me a pointer, it would be great.

The last few weeks have been kind of weird for me. I have been doing these little projects here and there around the apartment, but I seem to get nothing done. There has been some personal things that have been going on, which I am still trying to get my head wrapped around.

It is funny that one minute things are great, and the next it is falling apart. The short story is that a friend got sick, and went to the doctor. The doctor gave her some medicine, after a few days on the meds, she wound up in the hospital. Well from what I have read, you only see a doctor if it is really bad. And it is really bad if you do not take care of yourself or if you have a bad/weak kidney. The reaction, I was told by a friend, is caused only if you have cancer. To me and others, that quite doesn’t follow through. So, I am trying to see if my chain is just being pulled or what.

Aside from that, I am also going back and forth with my summer employer. This is, or will be my fourth summer with them, so I am not sure what is going on there.

On Monday, as most people have heard a student went onto the Virginia Tech and killed 32 people, and then himself. This has gotten quite a bit of media attention. I was just looking on CNN, and there is about five story on the main page, and three on the US News section. What I find even more interesting is on the <a href=http://www.cnn.com/LOCAL/south/" rel="tag nofollow">Southern news section. Then looking at The Washington Post, they have a much more prominent feature one the main page. The world’s read newspaper, The New York Times, there is only one article on the front page that I saw, and it didn’t have VA Tech in the title, but is the summary. Moving on to the U.S./National section, about a quarter of this section is about the VA Tech shootings. You can also see that the New York Times has implemented tags on the site, so if you like some topic, you can get all the stories associated with it. Here is Virginia Tech’s tag, which is populated by the shootings there last week.

I started this post the other day after reading Dan’s post on the One-Day Blog Silence proposal followed by Dr. Dave’s response to it.

I am actually in agreement with Dr. Dave’s post. Although I do feel for what happened at VA Tech, I am concerned about the proposal. It’s one in of those things that the thought that counts, but there are larger issues, as Dr. Dave points out, that may deserve a silence. However this is a nice tribute,

Monday night, I had the opportunity to see Stephen Hawking speak, I hate to say this but I found it kind of boring. I mean, if you don’t know who he is, it was like holy cow that is incredible, but if you know who he is, it wasn’t anything special. I guess the normal switch he uses to control his computer and speech synthesizer was acting up, so instead of the talks he was going to do, which was his Brief History of Time talk and live Q&A, he did was two lectures instead.

I don’t recall what the first talk was named, but it ended up being all about himself. Like I said above, if you didn’t know about him, you were more or less blown away. He talked about how his disability came about, and how he got into the field that he is in. He went onto bash the two or three other professors that didn’t allow him to study under him during his various degrees, and was glad it seemed that their ideas wound up to nothing. The last twenty or so minutes was about what he basically is studying now. I have been reading Stephen Hawking’s work on and off since eighth or ninth grade, so a majority of the lecture I kind of tuned out.

The second lecture, was looking at history, but in reverse. A critical review of this lecture could be that he was just pushing the Big Bang Theory. I can’t really give my view of this lecture because between still being partially zoned out from the first lecture, and just generally tired from the day. But he started from roughly present day, and went to the dawn of time, explaining how matter came about. For this section, Dr. Hawking used the analogy of matter being formed like bubbles raising to the surface like in soda. When they pop, they create matter.

I told somebody earlier that I was glad that the ticket I was given was free, because it was not stimulating to me at all really. I mean the last bit of the first lecture was a nice refresher, but that is all. I was little bummed at the night, I expected to be foaming at the mouth as I walked out.

For those that do not know who Stephen Hawking is, check out his Wikipedia entry or his personal webpage.
Buddy 1: Yeah, I think so, [some guy] asked me a few days ago. You can join us
Well, I totally dropped the ball, and on top of that, I don’t have a major fan base, so I am clueless about whom I will tag. I find it difficult to come up with five different things that people do not know about me, but seeing that the traffic I get seem random, you don’t know too much about me.

I have proved a part of a team (4 or 5 members out of about 15, who work at a major company) wrong over a product they support during a talk they were giving.
